Room 1008

9 computers, all Dell Dimension 4600

You have to reboot and hit F12 and select CD from the boot menu.

"Buffer I/O error on device sr0" shows up about 10 times, but does not stop progress.

Machine makes it to GDM without any real trouble.

No external speakers, meaning the playback of a .ogg file that I downloaded was impossible.

Room 1022

16 computers, all Dell Optiplex 320

You have to reboot and hit F12 and select CD from the boot menu.

"Buffer I/O error on device sr0" shows up about 10 times, but does not stop progress.

It hangs for several minutes at "Starting udev" but eventually the boot process continues.

Unfortunately, X fails to start. It drops you into reconfigure mode, which will eventually work (I chose 1024x768).

I didn't bother to try sound on this one, since it didn't occur to me until I was in the other classroom and I didn't want to wait 5 minutes for the LiveCD to boot again, but there were no speakers so I imagine the same problem as Room 1008 will exist.

On shutdown, there are lots of SQAUSHFS errors, but these don't really matter here.

The actual LiveCD

Do we want rhythmbox and/or totem?

I tested the following apps, and all of the started up just fine. I didn't actually try to DO anything with them, other than Firefox, which I used to write this page:

Audacity

Ardour

Hydrogen

VLC

Firefox

Fyre

Inkscape

Blender
